Virgin Money Mortgage Rates: Fixed, Tracker and Switch Deals by LTV

Updated 19 October 2026

Virgin Money is now part of Nationwide Building Society, and its new residential mortgage deals are sold only through mortgage brokers. This page sets out Virgin Money's current range in one dated table, for buyers, remortgages and existing customers by loan to value (LTV) and fee, with its trackers and the variable rates its deals revert to. Because Virgin Money no longer takes direct applications, Mortgage One, a whole of market mortgage adviser, can make the application for you and set the deal beside Nationwide and the rest of the market in the same check.

To have a Virgin Money application made for you, with a free initial consultation first, call 01202 155992 or contact Mortgage One.

Every Virgin Money tracker is an Everyday ERC Free deal: no early repayment charge. Bank Rate is 3.75%. No-fee purchase and remortgage trackers cost 0.55 to 0.66 points more. Fixed rates revert to the Standard Variable Rate, 6.74% (Buy-to-Let Variable Rate 7.49%, Loyalty Rate 6.49% after seven years). Virgin Money changes rates without notice.

Virgin Money prices each fix on two fees, a £999 fee or none. On a 2-year purchase fix at 60% LTV, the £999 deal at 5.09% costs less over the two years than the fee-free 5.34% on any loan above about £201,000. On the 5-year fix the gap is only 0.10 points, 5.11% against 5.21%, so the fee pays for itself from about £203,000 even with five years to recover it. On a 2-year remortgage at 60%, 5.19% on the fee beats 5.46% without one from about £186,000.

Early repayment charges are 2% then 1% on the 2-year fixes, 5%, 4%, 3%, 2% and 1% on the 5-year, and 6% falling to 1% on the 10-year. Virgin Money allows overpayments of up to 10% of the balance each calendar year without a charge, and its trackers carry no early repayment charge at all.

Can you still get a Virgin Money mortgage?

Yes, through a mortgage broker. Now that Virgin Money is part of Nationwide, its own website sends direct applicants to Nationwide and states that its new residential customer deals are still available through mortgage brokers. Its product guide says the same: the products are available through professional intermediaries only.

Buy-to-let is different. Virgin Money's website points new landlords to The Mortgage Works, Nationwide's buy-to-let lender, and its own buy-to-let purchase rates are open only to landlords who already hold a Virgin Money buy-to-let mortgage. Our The Mortgage Works mortgage rates page sets out the range a new landlord would be offered within the Nationwide group.

A broker reads Virgin Money as a second Nationwide price with its own criteria. The same case can be put to both lenders, and where their rules differ on income, loan size or property value, one of them may lend when the other will not.

If you want a Virgin Money deal and need a broker to apply for it, call 01202 155992 or contact Mortgage One.

Are Virgin Money's rates cheaper than Nationwide's?

Not at low LTV. Since its 13 October increase, Virgin Money's 2-year purchase fix at up to 60% LTV on a £999 fee is 5.09% against 5.04% at Nationwide, on Nationwide's broker guide effective 30 September and unchanged at our 19 October check, and 5.18% against 5.13% at 75%. From 80% to 90% LTV the two lenders charge the same, and at 95% Virgin Money's no-fee 2-year fix is 5.78% against Nationwide's 5.84%.

The 5-year pattern is the same: 5.11% against 5.06% at 60%, level from 80% to 90%, and 5.72% against 5.74% at 95% without a fee. On a £250,000 repayment mortgage over 25 years, 0.05 points is about £7 a month, so the choice between the two usually turns on criteria rather than rate. Nationwide's £999 fee deals shown here are for loans up to £299,999, and its full range is on our Nationwide mortgage rates page.

Virgin Money's trackers carry no early repayment charge, but at 4.24% they are not the cheapest: RBS started at 4.08% at our 17 October check and Nationwide at 4.09%. The case for Virgin Money is the exit without an early repayment charge and, for existing borrowers, the 4.05% switch tracker. Its 2-year tracker at 4.24% is 0.85 points below its own 2-year fix at 5.09%, about £122 a month on £250,000 while Bank Rate stays at 3.75%, and it can be left at any time without a charge. Our tracker mortgage rates table sets Virgin Money's margin against the big lenders, and our current UK mortgage rates hub carries their lowest fixes side by side.

How much will Virgin Money lend?

Up to 5.5 times income where household income is £75,000 or more, 5 times from £50,000 to £74,999 and 4.49 times below £50,000. The limit drops to 4.49 times at every income above 85% LTV, on shared ownership, and where any applicant is self-employed. The largest residential loan is £1 million.

On £45,000 of income that is £202,050, on £60,000 it is £300,000, and on £80,000 it is £440,000. A self-employed borrower on the same £80,000 is held to 4.49 times, £359,200. Variable income such as bonus and overtime counts at 60%, and rental income does not count. A remortgage with no extra borrowing is allowed 5.5 times up to 85% LTV whatever the income.

The maximum LTV also falls as the property value rises: 95% on homes up to £600,000, 85% to £750,000, 80% to £1.25 million and 75% above that. Interest only is available to 75% LTV.

Virgin Money treats daily rate contractors as employed, at the day rate times 46 weeks, inside or outside IR35 and through an umbrella company, to 95% LTV, with a year's contracting or two years in the same industry where income is £50,000 or more, and two years' contracting below that. Self-employed applicants need two years' trading, assessed on the lower of the latest year and the two-year average. It does not accept foreign currency income and does not lend to expats or anyone living abroad. The one exception is a UK or Irish national resident in the UK and working abroad for a time, paid in sterling into a UK bank account and living in the property, so a UK-resident seafarer paid in dollars falls outside it. Overseas cases go to the lenders on our expat mortgage rates page. Our Nationwide mortgage calculator shows which of the big lenders stretch further on your income, and our contractor mortgages guide covers day rate cases.

Virgin Money rates for existing customers and remortgages

An existing Virgin Money borrower can switch to a 2-year fix at 4.89% at up to 60% LTV on a £999 fee, or a 2-year tracker at 4.05%, Bank Rate plus 0.30 points. Switch deals carry no valuation or legal fees and sit below Virgin Money's new customer rates, 0.20 points lower on the 2-year fix at 60%.

A deal left to lapse moves to the SVR at 6.74%. On £250,000 over 25 years that costs about £1,726 a month against £1,445 on the 4.89% switch, £280 a month more. Virgin Money says an application made before the 10th of the deal's final month should start on time, and residential borrowers who stay seven years on the same property move to a Loyalty Rate of 6.49% instead. Our guide to the product transfer mortgage explains how to weigh a switch offer against the market.

A remortgage to Virgin Money from another lender starts at 5.19% on a 2-year fix and 5.18% on a 5-year fix at up to 60% LTV on a £999 fee, with a free valuation and standard legal work. Our remortgage rates by lender table shows whether another lender beats that, and whether a Virgin Money switch offer is worth taking. Figures as of 19 October 2026.
